Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Disorders

Urogynecology is a subspecialty of gynecology that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders in women. Common pelvic floor disorders include urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, and pelvic pain. Urogynecologists are physicians with specialized training in both gynecology and urology, enabling them to provide comprehensive care for conditions affecting the female pelvic organs. They employ a range of diagnostic techniques, including pelvic exams, urodynamic testing, and imaging studies, to accurately identify the underlying causes of pelvic floor dysfunction. Treatment options for pelvic floor disorders may include lifestyle modifications, pelvic floor physical therapy, medications, minimally invasive procedures, and surgical interventions.
